The California Branch of the Prince of Wales Alumni Association is part of a wide network of Alumni Associations of the school that encompasses branches in Freetown, Sierra Leone, London in England and Washington Metropolitan Area, New Jersey, and Atlanta in the United States. Together these global associations have contributed in diverse ways to the well-being of their alma mater. This includes setting up a revolving fund to pay teachers when government salaries are late, providing a computer lab that is solar powered, as well as 24 laptop computers at a cost of over $60,000, finance the cost of a teacher to teach computer science at the school, provide over 400 science textbooks to facilitate the teaching of science at the school as well as supplies of reagents and chemicals for the science laboratories at the school.
This dinner and dance will mark the end of a conference of all the branches at which their future involvement in the development of the school will be lengthily discussed. Its objective is to raise over $20,000 for rehabilitating the school’s water supply and toilet system, particularly in the science labs. These facilities are in dire need of rehabilitation as the lack of water to the labs and toilets does not only water down science education for which the school is eminently known, but also poses a danger to the health of students, faculty, and staff at the school.
It is hoped that all lovers of children and of African children, in particular, will support this worthy cause. Sierra Leone is badly in need of generous donors who will not count the cost of saving young innocent children from a life of ignorance and sub-standard education. Let’s all join together and help Sierra Leone regain its position as a leading light in Africa. It was not for nothing that that country was once known as the “Athens of Africa”!
Please join us in this worthy cause, by attending the Picnic and dinner/dance, or simply make a donation
